In 97% all matching condition, we have a fine example of a first year production, 1939 dated Enfield No.2 MkI∗ Service Revolver. This is all matching with a mint bore. This double action only variant of the No.2 Revolver was the standard service side arm of the British and Commonwealth Forces during the Second World War. While serviceable enough it was only effective in self defense out to about 15 yards. There were certainly better handguns available such as the Smith & Wesson Revolvers and any semi-auto pistol that could be had. The reason for the removal of the hammer spur and conversion to double action only was thought to be done for two reasons, the snag free use in tanks and the ease of training soldiers in the simple use of the pistol for rudimentary self defense at close range. At this is was nominally adequate. These days there is greatly increased interest in British WW2 Small Arms and these Revolvers saw every major campaign from Dunkirk to El Alamein to Normandy. They belong in everyone’s WW2 collection and this is top example.
