Description

In antique excellent condition, all matching down to the screws, we have an extremely rare and never seen in any meaningful condition Gewehr 1891 Artillery Carbine.  This one is probably one of the very first ones to be built as its dated 1890 but marked Gew 91 which indicates production at the beginning of 1891.  The Gew 91 was a carbine that was produced for the Artillery and had a stacking hook added for keeping the guns off the ground behind the battery.  This one is unit  marked to a replacement Foot Artillery Regiment.  The rifle was carried throughout WW1, there are many known 1918 dated photographs showing it was still in front line use with the artillery at the end of the war.  This fine example has the WW1 upgraded magazine cover and spring loaded plunger for top ejection of the stripper clip.  This carbine is one of the most elusive and difficult to find German rifles of the WW1 era, few collectors have a decent specimen in there collection including me.
