In excellent condition, we have a visually stunning Bavarian Issued Amberg Arsenal 1917 dated Gew.98 Rifle that is TRIPLE MARKED! It is a WWI issued rifle that then went into the “EWB”, the Einwohnerwehr Bayern a Bavarian para-military anti-communist Friekorps, and then went through a Nazi Era rework and was upgraded to a Gew 98M and is marked to the depot in Naumberg, likely SS issued after that as they used these rifles extensively in the early part of WWII. The rifle is totally matching and has a mint bore.
The “EWB”, the Einwohnerwehr Bayern a Bavarian para-military anti-communist Friekorps, which were a quasi governmental Proto-Nazi Police force/Goon Squad, which operated from 1918 to 1921 that suppressed the communist forces and maintained order in Munich. This group evolved from the Friekorps to the Nazi party. Very likely this rifle stayed in the hands of an early Nazi party member or apparatus, until it was then sent to the Depot and was upgraded in the early Nazi era to Gew 98M configuration with the upgraded rear sight for the heavy ball Ss. Ammunition and an improved middle stock band. These rifles are commonly seen in the hands of the Waffen SS during the early part of the war, especially during Operation Barbarossa. Matching Gew 98M Rifles are Nearly Impossible to find!!!
This is a real gem and it will not last long so I suggest you make a quick move on it if you see it first. This certainly is one of the most historically marked Mauser Rifles that we have ever taken in.
