This is an extremely important discovery that just came rolling out of the woodwork. We have the 719th Smith & Wesson Revolver ever made, and if it was a a well worn relic it would be a major find, but this example is in an extremely high state of originality, not only as to the condition but also the completely intact nature. we have an 1857 production very early Model 1 First Issue First Variation .22 short Revolver. According to the Roy Jinks Factory letter this was shipped on September 4, 1858 to J.W. Storrs Co., New York. The revolver completely conforms to the characteristics described in the letter such as the smooth rosewood grips, and the two tone blue and silver finish. The bore is excellent and the piece is completely matching and factory original. This is a textbook completely orthodox example. The rarity of this piece is compounded by the fact that it is in such an exceptionally fine state of preservation. This revolver is known to have been in a single collection since the late 1940’s and possibly much earlier. The rarity of this piece makes it an important artifact of the American Firearms Industry at the height of the industrial revolution and a very significant discovery for the advanced collector of Smith & Wesson firearms.
