Description

In excellent very sharp condition like you never ever see them, we have a circa 1940 M1 Steel Helmet with the rare and seldom seen Early rayon webbing Hawley Liner. The helmet is named to 2nd Lt Franklin E. Geiger of the Combat Engineers.  The steel code of the helmet is a very early 66D. The original cork finished olive drab paint is 99% intact.  As with all of these early style liners the chinstrap is extremely frail.  This liner is in exception condition, as they were just made from cardboard and fabric and they were extremely fragile; few survived the war and they are quite scarce in any decent condition.  This early liner was very quickly replaced by more durable materials.  We rarely see these helmets any more but when I walked up on this one I knew we needed it for the site.
