In 97% visually stunning condition,we have a top example of a 1913 Colt Single Action Army in 38-40 WCF with a 7 1/2 inch barrel, blued and cased with Colt Factory Ivory Grips with Colt Medallions, 100% ,matching factory original and un-messed with. This is a great gun in one of the Man-Killer calibers, it was in fact John Wayne’s favorite caliber and it was the choice of serious gunfighters and it was very much the .357 magnum of its day with a very high velocity for the time. The bore is mint and the gun has seen little use. The Colt factory ivory grips have aged to a mellow color and the grain shows very well.
This pistol has a very interesting shipping history, it was Shipped in October of 1913 to the Huge Montgomery Wards Flagship Store in Chicago as a one gun shipment, it may have been a special order for a customer, Perhaps for some greenhorn heading out west or someone who had watched too many silent cowboy films. This is a fantastic example of a Colt from the beginning days of the Western Cowboy Revival Period that was highlighted by Dude Ranches and Cowboy films.
