This is an exceptionally fine example of the Pre Fall of France, May, 1940 production French Service Rifle, the MAS Mle 1936, it is all matching and has a stunningly beautiful walnut buttstock. Â This was a WW2 U.S. vet bring back and was likely captured and in use by German or Vichy Forces, Perhaps even in the Service of the Free French or the Maquis. This rifle was made the Month The German Invasion began, and likely it was rushed to the front where it was promptly dropped or surrendered. This is a very stout well made compact rifle with very coarse sights, it would be a great rifle for use under 150 yards and its quite handy. Â Its completely matching down to the bayonet and appears to have seen little actual use. Â Also still with the correct French sling. Â This is a great example of the main French WW2 era Service Rifle and an extremely attractive example at that, one whose appearance probably cannot be matched; its almost exhibition grade.
