Here in absolutely impossible to find all matching condition, we are pleased to present an Antique 1895 dated St. Etienne Arsenal made Berthier Mle 1892 Mousqueton, commonly refereed to as the Artillery Carbine. You will note that this still has the very rare Factory Original Leather Butt Pad, which you just never see on the surviving examples. This was employed as it was thought to prevent slippage while mounted. The stock is very clean with a cartouche date of October, 1895 quite clear and readable.This is still in completely un-modified or rebuilt condition, still in the original Balle “D” 8mm Lebel caliber, not upgraded to Balle “N“. Surprisingly, the bore is in excellent condition as well.
This was the standard French Cavalry, mounted Security and Artillery arm of the French Army at the outbreak of the First World War and few survived that have not been reworked 23 times.
