In 96% very sharp condition, we have a scarce, very early 1958 third year production Second Generation Colt Single Action Army. This is in a hard to find configuration, .38 special with a 5 1/2 inch barrel. The gun is in exceptionally nice condition with the case much nicer than you usually see on these guns after 70 years. The bore is mint and the gun is as tight as a tick. These .38 Special Single Actions were the choice of those who actually wanted to shoot these revolvers and become skilled gunslingers as .38 special ammo is easy to find and affordable and .45 Long Colt has never been cheap. You could do a lot of cheap shooting with this smokewagon!
During the 1950’s Television really came into its own as it began to enter almost every American home. One of the main draws was the rebirth of the B grade Movie Western in a TV format. Americans have and will always be in love with stories about Cowboys and the Old Western Frontier. Suddenly everybody wanted a Six-Shooter, so Colt pulled the tooling out of Storage where it had sitting since the outbreak of WWII and resumed production. These early production Second Generation Revolvers were just as nice as the old pre-war Colts and they have seen a huge upswing in Collector Interest and the pre 1960 production guns in particular. These pistols not only harken back to the old west, but they also harken back to the days of the TV cowboys as well.
