News from the office: With Veterans Day arriving tomorrow I thought that we should reflect a bit on those who answered our countries call. At Pre98 everyday that we work in the office seems like Veterans Day to us because nearly everything that we touch is an artifact that evokes a tangible echo of past service. You pick up a 1911 and your mind wanders to the past; you think about who held it in their hands during dark and dangerous times. These things existed and were used by our citizen soldiers whose lives were up-ended when they answered the call to defend our nation and our way of life.
To many collectors there is a historical appeal to collecting what was used or carried during this war or that era that certainly has a fascinating aspect to it, but underlaying this one can ponder the thoughts, feelings, and fears and emotion of the people from the past who used these tools and equipment while they were in the maelstrom of conflict. It is important for all of those who collect not only to preserve material history but to also keep the memories alive of what is was like for those who answered the call and served to protect their way of life and collectively all of us.
Please make an appointment if you are stopping by the office. We are more than happy to pull something for you to look at if you have an interest; we just need to know in advance and don’t mind a visit.
