This is an excellent, extremely attractive, very crisp condition totally matching 1941 dated Late Portuguese Contract Mauser K98k rifle that was diverted to the German Army during WWII. This is still with the original German issue sling and was a vet bringback. The stock is beautiful with very clear cartouches and metal is still a blusterous blue. The bore is mint as well.
These Portuguese marked rifles were part of the final contract order of 98k rifles for Portugal that Mauser was fulfilling during 1941. Why many of these rifles were sent to Lisbon, the last of them ended up getting diverted into the German Army to help replenish arms being used up in the Invasion of the Soviet Union. These rifles are highly sought after by collectors and have long been associated with the Russian Front even though they certainly could be found on any front in Europe. This is a beautiful looking rifle with an outstanding stock and it will not last for long.
