IN 80% ORIGINAL CONDITION, WE HAVE A VERY RARE AND ALSO ONE OF THE EARLIEST PRODUCED AT SERIAL #247 US WW1 ISSUED REMINGTON UMC M1911 PISTOL. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY SCARCE WW1 CONTRACTOR, AND ONLY APPROX 21,000 WERE PRODUCED. THIS PISTOL IS 100% FACTORY ORIGINAL AND CORRECT EXCEPT FOR THE REPLACED FRONT SIGHT. THESE WELL MADE BUT VERY ROUGH LOOKING PISTOLS WERE FINISHED IN AN EXTREMELY FRAGILE BLUE FINISH THAT DID NOT STAND THE TEST OF TIME AND THIS IS THE NICEST EXAMPLE THAT WE HAVE HAD IN THE OFFICE IN SOME TIME. THESE UMC PISTOLS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A REAL CHALLENGE TO LOCATE IN THIS FINE CONDITION, MOST HAVE NO FINISH LEFT AND ALWAYS HAVE SOME REPLACED PARTS. MANY WERE ALSO COBBLED TOGETHER OUT OF THE TON OF UNUSED PARTS THAT REMINGTON HAD ON HAND WHEN THE CONTRACT WAS CUT SHORT DUE TO THE END OF HOSTILITIES. THIS IS A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF A GUN PRODUCED IN THE VERY BEGINNING OF THE PRODUCTION RUN EXACTLY AS YOU WOULD WANT TO HAVE IT. THIS RARE CONTRACTOR 1911 WOULD BE A REAL PRIZE TO ANY SERIOUS COLLECTOR. ABSOLUTELY ONE OF THE TOUGHEST M1911 PISTOLS TO OBTAIN THIS NICE AND ORIGINAL.
WHAT MAKES THIS PISTOL EVEN MORE INTERESTING WAS THAT THAT IT WAS OBTAINED FROM THE GRANDSON OF US NAVY COMMANDER WILLIAM A SAUNDERS III WHO CARRIED IN AS AN ARMY LT IN WW1 AND LATER AS A NAVY COMMANDER IN WW2. THAT WOULD CERTAINLY EXPLAIN THE BEEN THERE DONE THAT LOOK OF THIS PISTOL.
