In 94% factory original condition, we have the rarest of the WWI Era German Army issued, Imperial Proofed, 7,65mm pistols, The Revolutionary Jäger Pistol. There were only 2,000 of this pistol that were accepted by the German Army and only 30 are still known to exist. The Jäger Pistol was the first firearm that was constructed primarily of stamped or pressed steel parts. This was an extremely innovative design that was decades ahead of it’s time. When it was made, this technique was not accepted and that is why only 2,000 were taken into the German Army during the war.
Because of both rarity and the innovative design any of the 14,000 Jäger Pistols that were produced from 1915-1918 are highly sought after but adding that it is one of the only 2,000 that were used by the German Army really puts it on another level of desirability as well. This pistol was a technical success and was way ahead of it’s time, but it was also ahead of the metallurgy available at the time as well which resulted in a heavy somewhat chunky pistol. By the late 1930’s everything was in place for the practical introduction of parts made of stamped steel. One only need to look at the many iterations of the Kalashnikov Rifles to see how widespread the use of steel stamping in firearms is.
