This pistol would have been issued to the German Railway Police also known as the Bahn Dienst This is a totally matching mint crisp example of a very scarce and highly sought after Pistol. The bore is mint crisp as well. Only a handful of these “DR“ marked pistols survived all of those strafing air attacks on German Locomotives and they just don’t show up too often so this is a real find!
During the WWII era, the Reichsbahn operated in all of Nazi Occupied Europe. They needed firearms for security of the Trains and Rail Facilities against theft and sabotage. Pistols were also need for passenger security and especially in the transport of valuable cargo & prisoners.
The Wartime reputation of the Reichsbahn and especially its Bahn Dienst security apparatus is rather notorious, aside from it’s main duties of guarding the railway system and its property from partisan attacks and providing security screening of the passengers, they were complicit in the transport of Jews and others to the concentration camps and participated in guarding and loading these innocent people onto the trains and preventing their escape during transport. This adds to the historic significance of this pistol and the role it likely played during the war.
