Description

In excellent condition, we have a very hard to find very tail end of  WW1 production, January,1919 dated Rock Island Arsenal 1903 Springfield Rifle.  This rifle was one of the rifles that was assembled at Springfield Armory after 1903 rifle production was suspended at Rock Island in 1917 and all parts were shipped to Springfield Armory to be assembled and inspected.  The rifle is completely assembled out of Rock Island Arsenal made Parts but the inspection cartouche is from a Springfield Inspector, which indicates final assembly and inspection was performed at the Springfield Armory as it was on all the final Rock Island Production. These rifles are rare and highly sought after by collectors.  Although made too late to get into the field for WW1, this is a top example of a US WW1 era ’03 rifle that wold have been the main Service Rifle of the Army In the early stages of WW2 right up into 1944.     .
