In an exceptional 98% condition, we have a top example of the very highly desirable and rarely seen Legendary Manstopper, The Webley & Scott R.I.C. Model 83 5 shot Police Revolver in the full bore .455 Webley caliber. The Model 83 was the final ultimate version of the Royal Irish Constabulary Model Revolvers and it was chambered in the full on Webley .455 British Service revolver loading that was used in all of those large frame Webley Mark I through VI models. The bore is excellent and the pistol is all matching. The Model 83 R.I.C. was the longest cataloged Webley Revolver and they were in production from 1883 until around 1930 and some sources say that they were still available up to the beginning of WWII in 1939. This example is very late production and certainly dates from around 1930. This attests to the popularity of this pocket howitzer. This comes with a $200 50 round box of original vintage British Kynoch Ammunition.
Although it was called the Irish Constabulary Model, These revolvers were carried by Scotland Yard Detectives and just about anyone that you see in those British Victorian/Edwardian era Detective Mystery shows on the Telly. They also saw service with the Australian Army during WWI. This is a very desirable British revolver, perfect for dealing with the Hound of the Baskervilles, Jack the Ripper, Werewolves, re-animated mummies, etc. etc. Exactly what a detective from Scotland yard was apt to carry and many a British gentleman likely had one stuff in his coat pocket while traveling across the Empire. While you sometimes see the more rickety earlier models in .442 or .450 caliber, the stout model 83’s in .455 Webley are not often seen and just never turn up for sale. This is a must have for any Anglophiles desk drawer or overcoat pocket.
