In 98% very sharp condition, all matching including the grips, (which you rarely see matching on these) we have a 1942 production US NAVY marked Smith & Wesson Victory model revolver in .38 special with the standard 4 inch barrel.  The best part of this rig is that it was carried during the war by Naval aviation radioman 2nd class Alex Knish and comes with a very well researched grouping including his original named holster and medals. Radioman Knish was the radio operator on PBY Catalina Patrol planes during the war and was also with the Carrier Air groups that set up advanced airbases on islands just wrested from the Japanese, which is certainly an import reason for him to be armed. We rarely ever see such complete well documented stories and this is a real piece of the story of America during WWII. Â
The Smith & Wesson Victory Model revolver  was the standard side arm of the US Navy in WW2 as most of the 1911a1’s went to the Army and Marines. This is the classic US Naval Aviation side arm of WW2 and it was the most widely issued handgun of the US Navy during that war.  Bush 42 carried one and so did JFK on the PT109. For that reason alone these are very popular with all firearms collectors. This is a must have piece for any serious US WW2 collection.
