In 96% factory original un-messed with condition, we have a fine example of an Imperial German Navy 1908 3rd Variation Navy Luger. This is an all matching example with the exception of the un-numbered Naval magazine. The bore is excellent as well. Over all this is much nicer and more intact than you will often see these pistols. This was the standard sidearm of the WWI era German Imperial navy and would have been issued on board all ships and U-boats. An early Production pistol such as this was undoubtedly on some ship at the outbreak of the war in August of 1914.
During the Golden Age of Luger collecting from the 1950’s through about 1980 the 6 inch barreled Imperial Naval Luger was the premier top of the heap collectible Luger and probably the most sought after Military pistol in general with a veritable cult devotees. Today they are still highly regarded but you will not have to gain entryship to the Luger worshiping cult to collect them as almost all of the members are at the big gun show in the sky.
