Description

In 97% very sharp all matching condition, we have a very scarce pre-WWII US Army Issued Smith & Wesson Military & Police Revolver in .38 Special Caliber with a 5 inch barrel.  According to Pate, this is one of 300 M&P revolvers shipped to the US Army Ravenna Ohio Ordnance Depot in the fall of 1941.  Adding to the rarity This is not a victory model or a pre-victory model it is a standard 1905 Military & Police Revolver purchased by the Army.

Very few handguns were purchased by the Military prior to America’s entry into the war in December of 1941 so this is an extremely good find for the serious US Martial Arms Collector.  It is believed that these revolvers were used for security for the Army’s Civilian Construction units who built bases in the early days of the war both in the US and overseas.  They would have been used to guard equipment against saboteurs and enemy agents.  They were widely used in the base building in the Pacific Theater where some certainly ended up being used in the fighting.
