In 98%+ mint crisp hardly shot condition, we have a wonderful example of a 1932, 1st year production Colt Detective Special Revolver in the at the time Potent .38 special caliber. This pistol is still with the very early matching numbered box. You will not that the box was originally for a Police Positive but was re-labeled for the Detective Special, which was the new designation for the 2 inch barreled Police Positive. According to Colt, this pistol was shipped in 1932 to the Large Chicago Dealer Von Lengarke & Antoine. This firm supplied firearms to the Chicago “outfit” The Al Capone Crew.
As you might well imagine, the Detective Special is one of those guns from this turbulent era that certainly saw a lot of use with folks on both sides of the law. Certainly one of the most famous handguns of the Public Enemies, Depression, Pre WWII era. Even today this pistol is seen in the new Perry Mason series on HBO.
