Description

Here’s one of the hardest WWII M1 Carbines to locate. In excellent mint condition we have an extremely rare example of a totally original Irwin Peterson made M1 Carbine…This carbine has an Irwin-Pedersen marked receiver and was assembled by Saginaw S’G’ (Grand Rapids) in 1943. Perhaps most importantly, it’s an original carbine…NOT A RESTORATION that has been “put back” into its correct configuration. As most M1 carbine collectors know, things did not go well for the Irwin-Pedersen Arms Co. and they failed to produce any carbines that were fully accepted by government inspectors. With several other M1 contractors coming online, the I.P. government contract was terminated. The parts, tooling, and factory were acquired by prime contractor Saginaw, with the secondary factory denoted as Saginaw S’G’ on the receiver. Saginaw S’G’ quality checked the already manufactured I.P. receivers and various components and worked them into production. This is how completed Irwin-Pedersen marked M1 Carbines eventually were accepted into military service. It is estimated that fewer than 25,000 Irwin-Pedersen receivers were manufactured, making them the single rarest of the eleven M1 Carbine prime contractor marked receivers. This example has all IP and no Saginaw parts, most importantly the stock is very early IP marked stock with the correct Saginaw inspection cartouche.

In a world full of IP parts assembled guns this stands out as the genuine article as an INVESTMENT GRADE Irwin-Pedersen M1 Carbine!
