Description

In excellent mint condition, we have a very scarce early production M1941 Johnson Semi-Automatic Service Rifle.  This is in one of the two known USMC issued serial number ranges, but there is no definitive serial number list that has survived. These rifles were used by the Marine Raiders and also on Guadalcanal.   This rifle as you probably know was strongly considered as the next Army service rifle to replace the bolt action 03 Springfield.  Ultimately the Garand was picked and although it was certainly the better all around rifle, the Johnson certainly had some good points as well.  The decision was quite politicized at the time, and although it was not adopted by the Army, the Marine Corps ended up with a good number of them and they just loved them.  The Marines thought well enough of the rifle that they advocated for its adoption but this thankfully never occurred as this was just too complicated a weapon for general issue.  Everyone wants a Johnson for their collection and this is one of the finest examples we have seen.
