This is not only a historical artifact per say, but it is also a very well executed piece of wartime Japanese Art of very high aesthetic merit. We have a Japanese Army Officers Shin Gunto Sword. This is still with the company grade tassel as well.
This sword was handmade around 1940. It is a gunto blade of 26 inches length with no nicks and in high polish. It was made by Murayama Kunitsugu who made swords during the war. This is very likely the finest sword that he ever made; it has a very well executed temper line in the peaked hills style. There are no nicks on the blade and the temper line really pops visually which is rarely seen on Gunto military blades from this era.
Overall, this is a premier example of Japanese WWII Military Sword, as nice as one could expect without paying into the tens of thousands. This is not only an iconic artifact of the Pacific War and of the Empire of Japan, but also a stunning piece of swordcraft and a thing of great beauty and craftsmanship.
